CAPE‐OPEN: Interoperability in Industrial Flowsheet Simulation Software

Abstract: Chemical process modelling and simulation are widely used in process industries to progress in the understanding and in the improvement of many processes. Due to the complexity and variety of these processes, several pieces of software are often needed to model a given process, hence requiring interoperability between software. CAPE‐OPEN is an industry standard for interoperability between process simulation software. Compared to proprietary interfaces of software applications, CAPE‐OPEN allows for less overhe… Show more

“…For example, Shopfer et al [30] have proposed a componentbased platform for integration of modeling tools. Especially for the chemical process engineering, the CAPE-OPEN standard has been developed and integrated into several simulation frameworks [61]. For the multidisciplinary data exchange, Fillinger et al, [62] have proposed to use functional mock-up interface.…”

“…CAPE-OPEN is a standard for communication between chemical engineering software components, facilitating interoperability between process simulators. Most simulation software are CAPE-OPEN compliant, including Aspen HYSYS, which means that a CAPE-OPEN unit operation and property package can be included in the simulation [63]. CO-LaN is a non-profit organization responsible for the management of the CAPE-OPEN standard [64].…”

“…In this sense, COCO (CAPE-OPEN to CAPE-OPEN) simulator is a sequential simulation environment Under steady-state conditions. This software allows editing the operational variables defined through the CAPE-OPEN standard, allowing interoperability [9]. Several authors performed simulations using COCO simulator software to study the bio-waste handling systems [10][11][12] and bio-waste pyrolysis.…”
