Capillary hemangioma of the left ventricle

Abstract: We present the case of a young woman complaining of aspecific symptoms of malaise and dyspnea admitted to our Cardiology Department for investigations. Two-dimensional (2D)/3D transthoracic echocardiography showed an echogenic, sessile mass adhering to the midsegment of the posterior interventricular septum. The patient refused transesophageal echocardiography. For further investigation, a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging was performed, which raised suspicion of a benign tumor. Ultimately, the patient underw… Show more

“…It can show the hypervascular nature of cardiac haemangiomas and allow preoperative diagnosis. 3,[5][6][7] This case report describes a patient with a left ventricular mass that was detected during an echocardiogram. CMR showed a left ventricle apical septum hypervascular mass with features consistent with a cardiac haemangioma.…”

“…In some cases, the vessel walls may be thickened due to fibrosis [ 4 ]. Capillary-type cardiac hemangioma consists of small capillary-like vessels [ 5 ]. The last and least common type, arteriovenous, consists of thick-walled dysplastic arteries, veins, and capillaries with poorly defined boundaries [ 6 ].…”
