Características de las infecciones urinarias en pacientes con vejiga neurógena según el sistema de vaciado vesical utilizado en comparación con pacientes sin vejiga neurógena

Abstract: E. coli was the microorganism found in positive urethral cultures from all subgroups, except in the ICU group. The groups with the highest urinary tract infection rates were patients with MMC and spinal cord injuries. Sensitivity and specificity (as measured using ROC curves) for perception by neurological patients as an indication of the presence of urinary tract infection was higher in neurological patients than in the non-neurological control group (p=0.0004, area: 0.643).

“…Moreover, the patients with UTIs mostly were over 65 years old, so their weak immunological condition was considered to be a risk factor. In a previous study, a history of urinary tract surgery, urinary tract procedures, corticosteroid use and antibiotic use during hospital stay were also found to be associated with the risk for P. aeruginosa UTI [10,21]. In our study, we found that the occurrence of P. aeruginosa UTIs was strongly associated with particular host characteristics, including male gender, recent antibiotic therapy, prior urinary tract procedures and previous UTI.…”

E. coli was the most causative bacteria for UTIs in patients with a neurogenic bladder, and others included E. faecalis , P. aeruginosa , P. mirabilis , K. pneumoniae , and Streptococcus agalactiae [ 123 ]. In patients with a neurogenic bladder or other neurologic anomalies, Enterococcus and Pseudomonas spp.…”
