“…As pesquisas científicas envolvendo os fósseis da Bacia do Araripe, apesar de relativamente intensas, se restringiam basicamente à prospecção e identificação taxonômica (Lima, et al, 2007a), no entanto, atualmente este cenário mudou, visto que o uso de técnicas analíticas como a difração de raios-X e a espectroscopia, adequadas à caracterização de materiais, está cada vez mais presente nas rotinas dos estudos paleontológicos na Bacia do Araripe, principalmente na última década. O primeiro trabalho nessa área apresentou um estudo de caracterização da composição das escamas de um peixe fóssil oriundo da Formação Romualdo (Grupo Santana), do período Cretáceo, utilizando as técnicas de difração de raios-X em policristais e espectroscopia na região do infravermelho (Lima, et al, 2007a).
