“…Although these insecticides initially showed low LD 50 (Werner et al, 1983c), permethrin was later found to have an adverse effect on aquatic organisms (Werner and Hilgert, 1992). Werner et al (1986a) found that carbaryl (1 and 2% Sevin SL) and lindane (0.5%) were extremely effective in protecting individual high value spruce. All three insecticide formulations provided 100% protection 16 months after treatment, and were 89-96% effective at the end of the third growing season following treatment (Werner et al, 1986b).…”

Johnson (1996) indicated that 1.0 and 2.0% carbaryl (Sevimol) were effective for protecting P. engelmanii from D. rufipennis attack for 2 yr.
