Abstract: The present study reveals that incorporation of a 1,4-phenylene unit in carbazole-embedded porphyrinoid results in macrocycle 1 with a large Stokes shift and chemo-dosimeter for Hg2+. Both 1 and 1-Hg were confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis.
