“…Improved growth performance by increasing meal frequency from 2 to 6 day-', however, has been observed in rainbow trout (Bergot, 1979), common carp (Murai et al, 1983) and hybrid tilapia (Tung and Shiau, 1991) when they were fed glucose and starch diets. This can be explained partly by the increased feeding frequency which decreased the overloading of metabolic capacity in the glucose fed fish and digestive capacity in the starch fed fish (Hung and Storebakken, 1994).…”

“…This improvement cannot be explained by any depression in feed intake with diets high in digestible carbohydrates, as the level of feed intake was maintained constant in all batches during the experiment. No evidence is obtained for the probably high alpha-amylase activity suggested in triticale by Falisse (1980 (Bergot, 1979;Kaushik and Oliva-Teles, 1985). These studies have shown that in fish fed diets containing crude starch, there is, generally a low increase in the postprandial glycemia levels than in those fed pre-treated starch or glucose.…”

“…One of the interesting features of this cereal for terrestrial animal feeds is its relatively high lysine content (Davies, 1989 (Edwards et al, 1977;Refstie and Austreng, 1981;Hilton et al, 1987 Refstie and Austreng (1981) Bergot (1979).…”

“…Schwarz and Kirchgessner 1991). Starch digestibility decreases at higher carbohydrate inclusion levels (Bergot 1979, Bergot and Br≈que 1983, Hemre et al 1989), but Mohapatra et al (2003) reported a significant increase in digestibility with increase in gelatinized carbohydrate (GC) level in the diet of Labeo rohita carp fry.…”
