Carbon‐13 NMR spectroscopic analysis of 24‐methyl‐Δ5,22‐sterols in rape and mustard seed oils

Abstract: 24-Methylcholesta-5,E-22-dien-3/3-ol (C2s AS,~2-sterol) was separated from the unsaponifiable matters of the following eight seed oils of Brassica species: Brassica campestris (candle I and II and torch), B. napus (tower and midas), B. juncea (brown and oriental mustards), and B. alba (yellow mustard). The configuration at C-24 methyl group of the respective sterols was evaluated by ~3C NMR spectroscopy. All the C2s As,22-sterols in the Brassica seed oils were found to contain the C-24 epimer of brassicasterol… Show more

“…This was contained in appreciably large amounts (5–20%) in seed oil of rapeseed ( Brassica napus L.) and mustard ( B. nigra L.). The Brassica seed oils were also found to contain trans ‐22‐dehydrocampesterol in the range 10–30% 26. However, in plants belonging to the Curcubitaceae family, brassicasterol was present in a higher amount (8:2) with respect to 2 , although a single diastereomer, either 24‐α‐ or 24‐β‐epimer, was found 21…”

“…Eight atranorin derivatives ( 1 – 4 and 7 – 10 ) were isolated in addition to three depsidones (stictic acid 11 , isidiophorin 12 , lobaric acid 13 [ 18 ]), one dibenzofurane (strepsilin 14 [ 19 ]) and three terpenoids (brassicasterol 15 [ 20 ], ursolic acid 16 [ 10 ], ergosterol peroxide 17 [ 21 ]).…”
