Carbon-covered mesoporous silica and its application in Rhodamine B adsorption

Abstract: Modified versions of MCM-41 and SBA-15 were obtained from sucrose by carbon deposition. The ability of the resulting materials, MCM-41 CC and SBA-15 CC, to remove Rhodamine B from aqueous solutions was evaluated. TG/DTG, XRD, Nitrogen Adsorption (BET), and SEM were used to characterize the materials. Adsorption was investigated by finite bath studies. To characterize the adsorption behavior and mechanism, kinetics and equilibrium were assessed. MCM-41 CC provided the best adsorption results: adsorptive capacit… Show more

“…The removal efficiencies of 98.63% and 78.71% for CR and RhB are obtained, and the corresponding equilibrium adsorption capacities were calculated to be 328.77 and 112.35 mg g –1 . The maximum adsorption capacities of CR on other adsorbents were compared in Table . ,,, LDH@ZIF-67 with large specific surface area (214.28 m 2 g –1 ) and large adsorption capacity (max 521.2 mg g –1 CR and 446.2 mg g –1 RhB) was considered for its potential for rapid removal of organic pollutants from water.…”

“…Compared with other carbon materials and graphene materials, they still held an advantage in adsorption capacity and low cost. Compared with magnesium silicate/carbon composite [27], CAP7-27 had a faster adsorption rate in the first 5 min due to its larger pore size. Compared with Gg-cl-P (AA-co-AAm)/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite [37], both AP7 and CAP7-27 have a simpler preparation process and lower cost.…”
