Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen Adsorption on Cation-Exchanged SSZ-13 Zeolites

Abstract: Samples of high-silica SSZ-13, ion exchanged with protons and alkali-metal cations Li(+), Na(+), and K(+), were investigated using adsorption isotherms of CO(2) and N(2). The results show that Li-, Na-SSZ-13 have excellent CO(2) capacity at ambient temperature and pressure; in general, Li-SSZ-13 shows the highest capacity for N(2), CO(2) particularly in the low-pressure region. The effect of cation type and Si/Al ratio (6 and 12) on the adsorption properties was investigated through analysis of adsorption isot… Show more

“…Nitrogen adsorption. Using partial atom charges (reproducing the N 2 quadrupole moment) and Lennard-Jones parameters for nitrogen molecule from the literature [37], as described above, we where able to reproduce quantitatively most of the experimental data availavle Comparison of computed and experimental adsorption isotherms of pure CO 2 in CHA zeolite with Si:Al = 6 at 303 K, MFI zeolite with Si:Al = 30 at 297 K and MFI zeolite with Si:Al = 117 at 298 K, where the experimental data are taken from Pham et al [63], Dunne et al [64] and Bao et al [66], respectively. for N 2 adsorption at ambient temperatures.…”

“…Recently, the SSZ-13 zeolite has attracted much attention because of its various applications in catalysis (such as DeNO x [1,2] and propylene production from ethylene [3], methanol-to-olefin [4]) and CO 2 adsorption [5,6]. SSZ-13 zeolites have been synthesized via various methods, including direct synthesis (from precursors of silica and alumina) and conversion of zeolite Y.…”

“…The solid supports are normally porous materials with a high surface area and large pore volume (e.g., porous silica [16,17], activated carbon [18,19], zeolites [20,21], metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) [22,23] and some other materials, such as bentonite [24] and activated alumina [25]). …”
