Carbon Loaded Nano-Designed Spherically High Symmetric Lithium Iron Orthosilicate Cathode Materials for Lithium Secondary Batteries

Abstract: In the present study, Li2FeSiO4 (LFS) cathode material has been prepared via a modified polyol method. The stabilizing nature of polyol solvent was greatly influenced to reduce the particle size (~50 nm) and for coating the carbon on the surface of the as-mentioned materials (~10 nm). As-prepared nano-sized Li2FeSiO4 material deliver initial discharge capacity of 186 mAh·g−1 at 1C with the coulombic efficiency of 99% and sustain up to 100 cycles with only 7 mAh·g−1 is the difference of discharge capacity from … Show more

“…In this reaction, diethylene glycol serves as a reducing agent and as a carbon source. After homogeneous mixing, lithium acetate (Alfa Aesar, 98.0% purity, 20.5 mmol), and tetraethyl orthosilicate (Alfa Aesar, 98.0% purity, 10.0 mmol) were added dropwise Energies 2020, 13, 786 3 of 13 into the above solution and the mixture was stirred well at 245 • C for 18 h. Then the obtained LFS materials were washed using isopropanol for five times followed by drying at 120 • C overnight [32].…”

“…12)14) Among the all, the rate performance of LFSO can be improved considerably by tailoring the size from micrometer to nanoscale, increasing surface area and by applying particle-level in-situ carbon coating, which both depend upon selection of suitable synthesis techniques. 15), 16) For these reasons, many researchers have attempted to synthesize LFSO using various synthesis methods, including solgel, 19)22) solid-state reaction, 23) hydrothermal methods, 24), 25) molten salt, 26) spay freeze drying, 27) combustion 28) and polyol 18) synthesis. Among all, the solgel has the unique advantage of producing highly phase-pure LFSO nano crystalline powders with an in-situ carbon layer at low temperatures and atmospheric pressure conditions.…”
