Carbonic fluids in the Hamadi gold deposit, Sudan: origin and contribution to gold mineralization

Abstract: The Hamadi gold deposit is located in North Sudan, and occurs in the Neoproterozoic metamorphic strata of the Arabian–Nubian Shield. Two types of gold mineralization can be discerned: gold-bearing quartz veins and altered rock ores near ductile shear zones. The gold-bearing quartz veins are composed of white to gray quartz associated with small amounts of pyrite and other polymetallic sulfide minerals. Wall-rock alterations include mainly beresitization, epidotization, chloritization, and carbonatization. CO2-… Show more

“…1251 The dominant fluids in the quartz lodes are described as volatile-rich (CO2-CH4-N2) with 1265 variable salinity, from low (0.3-3 wt % eq NaCl) to moderate (4-8 w% eq NaCl) salinity 1266 (exceptionally reaching 17-20 wt % eq NaCl in a few deposits). Similar conclusions are 1267 proposed for the Hamadi deposit for initial "homogeneous aqueous-carbonic mixture" are 1268 inferred to form during retrogress metamorphism (Cheng et al, 2016). Gold is thought to have 1269 fit rather well with these results, with however significant differences.…”
