Carboxyl-Functionalized, Europium Nanoparticle-Based Fluorescent Immunochromatographic Assay for Sensitive Detection of Citrinin in Monascus Fermented Food

Abstract: A fluorescent immunochromatographic test strip (FICTS) based on the use of europium nanoparticles (EuNPs) was developed and applied to detect citrinin (CIT) in Monascus fermented food. The sensitivity of the immunoassay to detect CIT was greatly improved by the use of a specific monoclonal antibody to attach EuNPs to form a probe. Under optimum conditions, the visual detection limit was 2.5 ng/mL, and the detection limit of the instrument was 0.05 ng/mL. According to the results, the IC50 was 0.4 ng/mL. Matrix… Show more

“…Fluorescence immunoassays have advantange in various detection fields, especially in mature quantum dots, that sensitivity was influenced by the MAbs and fluorescent materials, and could greatly improve by EU-NPS and specific MAbs to use the fluorescent probes [30]. The EU-NPS were applied to fluorescence LFIA strips had matured in the detection field, and enhanced several advantages of LFIA for assay sensitivity, specificity and stability [31]. Due to excellent properties of the EU-NPS that the limit of detection for NGAL in this method was 0.36 ng/mL, while the mean urine NGAL levels was about 7.0 ng/mL in healthy individuals [32].…”

“…Immunoassay is one new, rapid, and high-throughput analysis strategy based on the specific combination of antigen (Ag) and antibody (Ab). After nearly 20 years of development, the immunoassay has gradually developed into enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) [74,75], chemiluminescent immunoassay [76,77], fluorescent immunoassay [78,79] and so on, which have been widely used in food analysis, especially in the field of rapid detection. The Ab with specific binding ability is the basis of immunoassay.…”
