“…Seagrass organic matter serves as food for the early‐instar horseshoe crabs, and supports the growth of other benthic invertebrates which, in turn, are the food of older juveniles (Fan et al, ; Kwan, Cheung, & Shin, ). Although dietary contribution of mangrove‐derived organic matter to both Asian horseshoe crab species is very low (<3%, Fan et al, ), intertidal areas with mangrove forest near high‐water line can serve as essential spawning habitats for C. rotundicauda (Fairuz‐Fozi et al, ). This finding is consistent with the results that sediment Chl a and/or TOC contents were, in general, higher at areas near mangrove and seagrass beds (Supplementary Material 3).…”

“…The articulated nature of NHMUK PI In 61012-61018 precludes a moulting event [Vrazo, Braddy, 2011], but likely the lack of preferential specimen orientation, and similarity to clusters of extant xiphosurids suggests that the slab records a mating aggregation (sensu Gutiérrez-Marco et al, 2009). It is also interesting to note that the brackish palaeoenvironment that preserved this cluster is comparable to the environment the smallest extant taxon -Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda [Latreille, 1802] -spawns: "brackish estuaries and rivers in muddy sand and mangrove swamps" [Brockmann, Smith, 2009: 200;Fairuz-Fozi et al, 2018].…”

“…Field visits to Balok River and its estuary, Balok Beach were carried out from January to December 2016 [1] . Gill nets with 2 m × 200 m (size) × 11.43 cm (mesh size) measurements were installed an hour before rising tides at the river mouth, Balok River confluence and upstream meander.…”
