Cardanol /SiO2 Nanocomposites for Inhibition of Formation Damage by Asphaltene Precipitation/Deposition in Light Crude Oil Reservoirs. Part II: Nanocomposite Evaluation and Coreflooding Test

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the behavior of Cardanol/SiO2 nanocomposites in the inhibition of the asphaltene damage based on the coreflooding test at reservoir conditions. The nanocomposite design was performed in Part I (), leading to SiO2 nanoparticles functionalized with different mass fractions of cardanol on the surface of 5 (5CSN), 7 (7CSN), and 9% (9CSN). In this part of the study, the nanocomposite/reservoir fluid interactions were evaluated through interfacial tension measurements and nanocomposite/ro… Show more

“…Figure 3 a exhibits the IR spectrum for SiO 2 -C and SiO 2 -S nanoparticles, where the stretching of Si-OH functional groups is present in wavelengths 3500 cm −1 to 3400 cm −1 and in the range from 1650 cm −1 to 1600 cm −1 [ 74 , 76 ]. The Si-O covalent bonds were observed in the range from 1300 to 1000 cm −1 [ 77 , 78 ], and the Si-O-Si functional groups are present near the frequency of 800 cm −1 [ 79 ]. The intensities of the bands corresponding to the functional groups Si-OH and Si-O-Si differ due to the content of these groups on the surfaces of the nanoparticles [ 80 ].…”

“…The adsorption isotherm of CO 2 on CBM and CBM-10RSi follows the Ib-type behavior concerning the IUPAC classification. 63,107 These types of isotherms are characterized by the increase of the adsorbed amount of CO 2 as the absolute pressure increases. The CO 2 maximum adsorption amount on CBM was close to 0.05 mmol g −1 .…”

“…To run the oil and gas industry, different expertise areas are involved. , For example, studies related to drilling, completion, hydraulic fracturing, , enhanced oil recovery, , acidizing, organic deposition inhibition, inorganic deposition inhibition, , and the demulsification process are relevant to optimize the oil production. Nevertheless, the quality of water that is discarded or reinjected plays an important role not only in the oil business as a whole but also in the issues related to environmental aspects. Moreover, the treatment of oil-spilled seawater is a challenge around the world, adding motivation to the research on oil–water separation. …”
