Cardiac troponin levels in pregnant women with severe pre-eclampsia

Abstract: Pre-eclampsia is a multisystem disorder that involves vascular endothelial dysfunction and diffuse inflammatory response. The cardiac troponin (cTn-I) levels in pre-eclampsia are controversial. The objective of this study was to compare the cTn-I levels between normal pregnant women and those with severe pre-eclampsia. A total of 78 patients who underwent caesarean section were included in the study. The patients were assigned into two groups as the severe pre-eclamptic pregnant group (study group, n = 36) and… Show more

“…TnT has generally been considered a marker for cardiomyocyte necrosis. However, hs-TnT has also been detected in noncardiac conditions, including renal failure, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, sepsis and dialysis, albeit in substantially lower concentrations [23][24][25][26][27]. The findings of hs-TnT levels in this low range in conditions other than cardiac ischemia indicate that even the low levels may confer prognostic information.…”

“…De igual forma, Aydin et al 19 tampoco encontraron diferencias significativas en las concentraciones del marcado entre las preeclámpticas severas y los controles sanos. Las posibles causas de esta diferencia con los resultados de esta y otras investigaciones pueden ser por las diferentes características de las pacientes, como enfermedades sistémicas concomitantes o estado del volumen intravascular.…”
