Cardiac Troponin T in Neonates after Acute and Long-Term Tocolysis

Abstract: The present study was designed to determine the levels of cardiac troponin T (cTnT) in cord blood of neonates exposed in utero to tocolytic therapy by β-sympathomimetics. cTnT in 40 neonates after acute tocolysis (0.24 ± 0.05 μg/l) was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in comparison with the control group (0.05 ± 0.01 μg/l). The maximal values were reached in about the 3rd day of therapy (0.39 ± 0.11 μg/l). cTnT in 30 neonates after long-term tocolysis was 0.12 ± 0.03 μg/l. No correlation was found between cTnT … Show more

“…Adamcova et al [44] showed a higher cTnT levels in infants following tocolysis (0.24 8 0.05 vs. 0.05 8 0.01 g/l). These studies used second-generation troponin T assays and included small numbers.…”

“…Therefore, it is favorable in detecting minor amounts of cardiac necrosis that could be missed by other markers [6,10] . Third, despite a biological half-life of 2 h [6,10,11] , cTnT has a wide diagnostic time window in adults ranging from few hours till 14-21 days with a peak at 12 h as a consequence of intracellular compartmentation [2,6,[9][10][11][12][13][14] .…”
