Cardiometabolic risk factors in primary centred and rotator cuff-related shoulder osteoarthritis: a comparative study

Abstract: BackgroundRisk factors for shoulder osteoarthritis (SOA) have been poorly studied. SOA has two anatomical subtypes: primary centred SOA (centred SOA) and rotator cuff-related OA (non-centred SOA). We examined whether cardiometabolic risk factors are preferentially associated with centred than mechanical-induced non-centred SOA.MethodsThis 2004–2012 retrospective multicentric study included patients with SOA. Data on clinical characteristics, especially cardiometabolic risk factors, were collected. We compared … Show more

“…After exclusions, 36 studies required the full text to be assessed. Out of these, 30 studies were excluded (23 studies had incomplete cardiometabolic details available to establish a MetS definition, 5 studies had no shoulder pain data and 2 studies did not meet participant criteria), resulting in 6 studies42 43 55 66–68 for inclusion in this review.…”

“…Six studies were conducted in European countries [ 12 , 19 , 20 , 22 , 23 , 28 ], six in North American countries [ 17 , 21 , 25 , 26 , 29 , 30 ], and four in Asian countries [ 8 , 24 , 27 , 31 ]. Three studies were prospective cohort study [ 21 , 23 , 25 ], seven were retrospective cohort study [ 8 , 17 , 20 , 24 , 26 , 27 , 29 ], two were case-control study [ 12 , 31 ], two were cross-sectional study [ 19 , 30 ], one was case series [ 28 ], and one was retrospective observational study [ 22 ]. Of the 16 studies analyzed, ten were comparative and analyzed using the 24-point scale; the remaining six non-comparative studies were analyzed on the 16-point scale.…”

“…С другой стороны, процесс ремоделирования сосу-дистой стенки связан с выработкой вазоактивных веществ таких как оксида азота, эндотелиально-го фактора роста сосудов, трансформирующего фактора роста, провоспалительных цитокинов, адипокинов. Указанные биологически активные вещества являются известными факторами пато-генеза остеоартрита [13], что также указывает на имеющиеся взаимосвязи между системным сосу-дистым ремоделированием и ОА.…”
