Cardiovascular disease and healthy ageing

Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases are main cause of morbidity and mortality in the Western World. Cardiovascular disease increases in its prevalence with age and the burden of this condition is set to increase with an Ageing global population. There are many factors that impact cardiovascular disease risk. The aim of this brief commentary is to explore some of these factors; specifically, we will examine the role of social status, nutrition and, psychological stress in modulating cardiovascular disease risk. Our aim is … Show more

“…It is apparent from our discussion of cholesterol metabolism, that it is an exceptionally complex system with a multitude of interacting mechanisms ( 111 , 112 ) . Many of these mechanisms interact via positive and negative feedback regulators, the dynamics of which is not trivial.…”

“…An example of this decline is the dysregulation of cholesterol metabolism which is inextricably linked to CVD. Therefore, a keen area of focus is how intrinsic aging impacts whole‐body cholesterol metabolism . Recently, we developed a whole‐body model that attempted to capture whole‐body cholesterol metabolism .…”

“…Rabinowitsch [29] and Mooney [30] introduced the pipe flow characteristic parameter 8v/D. So Equation (8) can be rewritten as g w;n ¼ 8v=ð2=3ÞD hy , so that the shear rate can be put into the same form as the Newtonian pipe flow shear rate.…”
