Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: a systematic literature review

Abstract: Previous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a high prevalence of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in psoriasis patients, including metabolic syndrome, cigarette smoking, obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and dyslipidaemia. An increase in CV morbidity and mortality attributable to psoriasis is still under question. Primary objective: to assess CV morbidity and mortality in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) including stroke, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction (… Show more

“…Systemic inflammation induced by obesity and metabolic syndrome, in turn, could exacerbate local skin inflammation via blood flow, which may consequently expand psoriasis inflammation 12 . The link between local and systemic inflammation is further supported by recent vast reports focusing on the high percentages of psoriasis patients who have cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities [12][13][14][15][16][17] .…”

“…Psoriasis not only negatively affects the patient's quality of life, but its chronic inflammation also increases the risk of CV morbidity and mortality [21]. However, it is not only inflammation that could justify this association; recent evidence also suggests a role for autonomic CV system dysregulation [22].…”

“…При ПсА значения стандартизованного показателя смертности составляют от 0,8 до 1,6 [15,27,28]. В целом, пациенты с ПcА имеют повышенный риск ССЗ, однако данные, касающиеся частоты мозгового инсульта, проти-воречивы [27,29].…”
