Career Development Concerns of Midcareer Military Personnel

Abstract

Due to the consequence of previous training and job experience on career options for adults, Super and Kidd (1979) suggested that the assessment of adult career development concerns be directed to "special target populations which have certain experiences and certain career development problems in common" (p. 262). One such group may be military populations since (a) the career development literature on this group is relatively scarce, and (b) the factors noted by Thomas (1979) as prompting career concerns are present in the military occupational environment and in the activities of military personnel. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to assess the career development concerns of military personnel.
