“…Therefore, we suggest that the relationship between parental monitoring and adolescents' IA level should be further compared between adolescents with low- and high-self-control. Moreover, given that Chinese parents tend to emphasize parental authority during monitoring (Chao and Tseng, 2002 ), we suggest that under the Chinese culture, a high level of parental monitoring might lead to adolescents' negative emotion, such as stress or reverse psychology (Chong et al, 2014 ; Ma et al, 2021 ), thus increase the risk of getting addicted.
