Carrier Aggregation Based Interference Coordination for LTE-A Macro-Pico HetNet

Abstract: The intensive downlink (DL) inter-cell interference created by cell range expansion (CRE) of picocells is an urgent problem needing to be solved under macro-pico heterogeneous network (HetNet) scenario. A promising approach is taking advantage of additional degree of freedom brought by carrier aggregation (CA). However, poorly arranged carrier configurations or interference coordination schemes can lead to a degradation of system overall performance. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic interference coord… Show more

“…Then the greedy binary carrier selection algorithm was applied for CC selection. In [11], the interferences of control channel and data channel were analyzed separately, and the price based algorithm was designed to determine the transmission power so that the interference can be minimized. In addition to interference aware scheduler, the requirements of quality of services (QoS) for different traffic types, e.g.…”

“…It is obvious that the optimization problem in (P1) is a head-confusingly non-convex problem since the cost function in the form of (7) is a non-convex function [31]. Furthermore, this power adjustment based eICIC problem becomes NP-hard considering the altering of the serving cell seen in (11), which makes the problem even more difficult to solve. We prove that the problem in (P1) can be reduced to the general K-median Problem which has been proved to be NP-hard.…”

“…However, the interference is increased as well, which severely limits the improvement of the network performance [6]. Although a lot of studies have been done on enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) in less dense HetNets [7][8][9][10][11][12][13], there is a huge difference between less dense and hyper-dense HetNets. While the crosstier interference from the macrocells is the most prominent in the existing less dense HetNets, the co-tier and cross-tier interference from multiple small cells is dominant in hyper-dense HetNets [14].…”
