“…Occurrences of mycotoxin residues in biological samples, especially animal source foods, were used to evaluate mycotoxin exposure in animals and assess the risk to human consumers [ 39 ]. Although various studies indicate that chicken eggs and meat are only minor contributors to human dietary mycotoxin exposure [ 40 , 41 ], chronic exposure to these low levels could have a negative impact on the health of human consumers [ 42 , 43 ]. Iqbal et al [ 44 ] reported the highest total AFs concentration of 8 μg/kg in livers of chickens compared with other organs, because the liver is the primary target organ of AFs.…”

“…AFB 1 residues have been observed in eggs only when the hen consumes a feed with a minimum AFB 1 concentration of 500 g/kg feed ( Oliveira et al., 2000 ). Another study indicated hen feed inoculated with DON and ZEA up to 2228, 820 μg/kg did not contaminate the eggs ( Emmanuel et al., 2020 ). The detection of AFB 1 , FB 1 and ZEA in egg samples in the current study gives an indirect indication that the feeds given to the hens may be contaminated with high levels of these toxins.…”

“…Fusarium mycotoxins are fungal pollutants found in crops, fruits, vegetables, and feed around the world, posing serious threat to human and animal health [22]. BEA, a non-legislated emergent mycotoxin, contaminates feed and food globally [23], as proven by in vitro and in vivo toxicity reports.…”
