Cascade-exciton model analysis of proton induced reactions from 10 MeV to 5 GeV

Abstract: We have used an extended version of the Cascade-Exciton Model (CEM) to analyze more than 600 excitation functions for proton induced reactions on 19 targets ranging from 12 C to 197 Au, for incident energies ranging from 10 MeV to 5 GeV. We have compared the calculations to available data, to calculations using approximately two dozen other models, and to predictions of several phenomenological systematics. We present here our conclusions concerning the relative roles of different reaction mechanisms in the pr… Show more

“…[34], where a rather crude model was used, using an unsatisfactory level density parameter and assuming somehow arbitrarily excitations to particle unbound states up to 10 MeV. Our conclusion is in keeping with the results of previous works [19,[38][39][40], but the effect of the energy-dependent nucleon potential was not investigated before our work.…”

“…[9]). In the last few years, the CEM has been extended [10] to calculate hadron-induced spallation and used to study [11]- [15] about 700 reactions induced by protons from 10 MeV to 5 GeV on nuclei from Carbon to Uranium.…”

“…Four intranuclear cascade models are incorporated in MCNPX: the Bertini [6][7][8][9], ISABEL [10][11][12], CEM2k [13][14][15][16][17][18][19] and INCL4 [20,21] models. In the calculations discussed below the intranuclear cascade models, except the INCL4 model, were always used together with the pre-equilibrium and evaporation models.…”
