Case history correlates of a Personality Inventory for Children (PIC) profile typology.

Abstract: We sought to enhance the clinical utility of a profile typology constructed in earlier studies and based on the Personality Inventory for Children (PIC), a parent-informant measure of child and adolescent adjustment and ability. “…An average 2-week temporal stability of the profile scales within a clinical sample was .86; the index for the factor scales was the same (86). Scale validity has been demonstrated through identification of scale-replicated correlates in large clinical samples (Lachar, 1982; Lachar & Gdowski, 1979) and through the development of actuarial approaches to profile classification and interpretation (Gdowski, Lachar, & Kline, 1985; Kline, Lachar, & Gdowski, 1987; Lachar, 1990; LaCombe, Kline, Lachar, Butkus, & Hillman, 1991). 1…”

“…Cluster-analytic techniques are useful in psychopathology research for identifying subtypes of disorders or for designing diagnostic systems (Borgen & Barnett, 1987). Cluster-analytic techniques have frequently been applied to identify subgroups based on their performance on a particular personality measure (e.g., LaCombe et al, 1991).…”
