“…The rearrangement of MYC and a mutation in NOTCH2 were believed to have induced the immunophenotypic transformation of MCL cells in this patient (19). It has also been reported that EBV can drive the conversion of MCL to DLBCL (20). The concept of a double-hit lymphoma was first defined in 2011 as any lymphoma with a chromosomal breakpoint affecting the MYC/8q24 locus in combination with another recurrent breakpoint, usually t (14;18) (q32;q21) involving BCL2 but occasionally t(11;14) (q13;q32) involving CCND1 (21).…”

“…In this report, the patient developed DLBCL approximately 9 years after a diagnosis of MCL was made. The tumor cells appeared to lack expression of both CD5 and cyclin D1 suggesting that they were not clonally related to the underlying MCL [12]. Unfortunately we were unable to definitively assess clonal relationship in our cases by immunoglobulin sequencing as it was not possible to extract DNA of sufficient quality from the paraffin embedded tissue blocks.…”

“…In 2003, Terasawa et al. ( 10 ) reported a case of MCL, which relapsed 8 years later and transformed into invasive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL); EBV was detected in the DLBCL. Southern hybridization with an EBV terminal repeat probe showed a clear monoclonal pattern in DLBCL specimens.…”

“…At present, there are few studies on EBV-associated mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), and most of them are case reports (9)(10)(11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16). These studies have established the connection between EBV and MCL.…”
