Case Report: A Case of Gallbladder Carcinosarcoma With Osteoclast-like Multinucleated Giant Cells that Was Associated With RANK‐RANKL Signaling

Abstract: Introduction: Gallbladder carcinosarcoma with osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells is known to be most uncommon form of gallbladder cancer. Owing to its rarity, the pathogenesis of gallbladder carcinosarcoma with osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells is largely unknown.Case Presentation: We present a case of carcinosarcoma with osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells in the gallbladder. A 57-year-old woman visited our hospital due to jaundice. An examination revealed calculous cholecystitis and g… Show more

“…OGC tumors in other organs, by contrast, are malignant neoplasms. OGC tumors have been found in several other organs including liver, breast, gallbladder, and pancreas (2)(3)(4)(5)(6). Among various histological subtypes of urothelial carcinoma (UC), carcinoma with OGC resembling a giant cell tumor of bone is extremely rare and only a few reports of urothelial carcinoma of the bladder with osteoclast-like giant cells (UCOGCs) have been reported (7)(8)(9)(10)(11).…”

“…Several names have been used in the literature referring to them, including cancer-associated macrophage-like cells (CAMLs) [ 4 ], neoplastic-immune hybrid cells [ 7 ], Polyploid Giant Cancer Cells (PGCC) [ 6 , 8 ], polyaneuploid cells (PACCs) [ 9 ], blastomere-like cancer cells [ 10 ], osteoclast-like cancer cells [ 11 ], circulating giant tumor–macrophages fusion cells [ 12 ], hybrid cells [ 13 ], and pleomorphic cancer cells. It is unclear if different names correspond to different cell characteristics or not.…”
