Case report: A primary calcified cardiac mass in right atrium partially obstructs the tricuspid valve in a patient on hemodialysis

Abstract: Primary cardiac calcification is a rare benign mass in patients with end-stage renal disease. A few cases have been reported in the literatures. In this case study, during a routine checkup for hemodialysis, a transthoracic echocardiography on a 19-year-old male showed a cardiac mass in the right atrium that was partially obstructing the tricuspid valve. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging showed a well-circumscribed, homogeneous “shadow” in the right atrium; it measured 29 × 27 mm, had equal T1- and T2-weighte… Show more

“…6,7 Vegetations on the tricuspid valve can be seen in case of infective endocarditis while non-infective masses have been reported in patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. 8 Calcified masses such as the calcified amorphous tumour have been reported in patients with end stage renal failure, 9 and cardiac hydatid cysts on the tricuspid valve has also been described. 10 In case of previous cardiac surgery, the presence of prosthetic material can orient the aetiological diagnosis toward the presence of a thrombus.…”

“…The presence of retained bone fragments within the endometrium poses significant 28 31 implications for fertility , often mimicking the function of an IUD by creating a physical barrier to implantation. This can lead to challenges in achieving pregnancy, highlighting the critical nature of complete extraction for those seeking fertility restoration.…”
