Case Series of Dengue Fever in Peripartum Period: Maternal and Foetal Outcome

Abstract: Introduction: Dengue fever is a major public health problem in tropical and subtropical areas. There are not many studies concerning the complications of dengue fever in pregnancy. We present four serial cases of dengue fever in pregnancy. Case illustration: Three of four cases were delivered by caesarean section; two of them died during post-caesarean care. All cases had the lowest platelet level below 50,000/µL and were given platelet transfusion during and after delivery; they also showed abnormal liver fun… Show more

“…These changes mask the typical rise in haematocrit and haemoconcentration seen during the defervescence phase of Dengue haemorrhagic Fever (DHF). [11][12][13] Patients in critical phases of dengue infection, like those in case 1, 2, and 4, may present with normal haematocrit despite being in a state of shock with reduced perfusion and altered mental status. It is essential not to solely target a normal heart rate and blood pressure or a specific haematocrit level, as this could lead to fluid overload.…”

“…Vertical transmission of ZIKV occurs in 1–13% of maternal infections, and severe sequelae are associated with early infections primarily in the first and second trimester [ 1 , 15 ]. Few studies have investigated vertically transmitted dengue; however, DENV infection in pregnancy has been associated with increased risk for severe dengue outcomes including hypovolemic shock and hemorrhage, as well as three times the risk of maternal mortality [ 2 , 7 , 16 ]. Intrauterine growth restriction, premature placental detachment, preterm birth, miscarriage, and stillbirth have been associated with maternal infection [ 2 , 10 , 17 ].…”

“…4 , không có trường hợp nào lây truyền từ mẹ sang con, tương tự như một nghiên cứu của Ấn Độ ở8 trường hợp mang thai có sốt xuất huyết . Có thể sự lan truyền virus từ mẹ sang con phụ thuộc vào mức độ nghiêm trọng của bệnh sốt xuất huyết ở mẹ nhưng chưa có nghiên cứu nào chứng minh điều này.…”
