Case studies for automotive components using CAD and CAE techniques

Abstract: In the present paper we present model of 3D components, parts of power supply system found in automobiles. 3D designs of components are obtained using modern techniques of computer systems which implies the means of CAD software. Following components designing, an analysis of obtained models was made, considering static, mechanical and thermal stresses. These studies were made by means of numerical simulation, using CAE techniques, and have the purpose of optimizing geometrical shapes of designed components in… Show more

“…In order to communicate with the process subjected to parametric measurements, computer must be equipped with an additional hardware interface device which plays the role of converting input analog signal into output numerical signal on a certain number of bits, based on the analog-to-digital conversion [8,12]. So, the hardware virtual instrument interface should include an analog to digital converter.…”

“…Belt conveyers have different lengths, are driven by motors with different speed and powers, their gearboxes have different ratio and for each belt conveyor a different type of variable speed drives was used. The functioning of entire process is controlled by means of one PLC [7][8][9][10][11].…”

“…Moreover, making the right selection of the material for a mechanical system considering the environmental aspects is important for the development regarding the functionality of the part with the replace material. In this way, the simulation by finite elements method (FEM) allows static and thermal analysis, and, thus, optimization leading to more reliable parts [22] where the pinion has to endure forces in the teeth due to the curved surface that pushes one against the other to produce the rotary motion [23], and that is the phenomenon that can be replicated with the FEM. In this sense, the research of Chen et al, using computational simulations, proved the importance of mesh performance on modified straight bevel gears, showing that the modifications on tooth end relief and symmetric crowns allows them to avoid the edge effect and alignment errors, hence, reducing the sensitivity of bending and meshing impacts and improving the results of bending fatigue [24] that can be directly associated to the LCA of the gears [24].…”
