Leptospirosis affects more than one million people and causes almost 60 thousand deaths every year, making it one of the most significant zoonoses worldwide. Currently, there is an annual average of more than 3,600 cases in the country, with, on average, 375 deaths per year. Although there are efficient medications to treat leptospirosis and prevent its progression, in some cases, late diagnosis can lead to the patient's death. Because it is a disease associated with poverty, social disinterest and eventually the need for costly treatments after infection, it has become, internationally, a neglected tropical disease (NTD). The consequences of the incidence of leptospirosis can last for long periods and generate worrying impacts on the affected communities. This study aims to observe and portray the epidemiological profile of leptospirosis in the state of Rondônia, so that it is possible to understand the disposition of the disease and the outcome of cases. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, retrospective and quantitative study, carried out in April 2021. The data used in the present study were collected from information available on government websites TABNET/DATASUS. As demonstrated by this study, leptospirosis still causes deaths, despite being an easily treated disease. It is important that public health bodies develop more emphatic policies for the control and correct diagnosis of leptospirosis, just as the private network must also pay attention to the disease as a differential diagnosis, even in non-endemic periods.

A leptospirose é uma zoonose muito difundida, ainda negligenciada e emergente, sendo globalmente subestimada. Buscou-se analisar o espaço-temporal e traçar o perfil epidemilógico da leptospirose em humanos no estado de Pernambuco, no período de 2007 a 2022. A metodologia tratou-se de um estudo retrospectivo, com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN/DATASUS). No período estudado avaliou-se 3.506 notificações arquivadas nas XII GERES (Gerências Regionais de Saúde) do estado. Os meses com mais notificações foram entre abril e agosto, principalmente nos anos de 2010, 2011 e 2019. As maiores notificações foram entre os indivíduos do sexo masculino, com idade entre 15 e 59 anos, da raça parda, com grau de escolaridade de 5º a 8ª série incompletos, tendo a cura como principal prognóstico. Detectou-se que a leptospirose é infecção zoonótica, endêmica nas grandes cidades, associada a falta de sanemaento básico e presente em populações que sobrevivem em precárias condições de vida.
