Castor leaf mediated synthesis of iron nanoparticles for evaluating catalytic effects in transesterification of castor oil

Abstract: A castor (Ricinus communis) leaf extract mediated process was developed for the synthesis of iron nanoparticles. The phytosynthesized iron nanoparticles were used as a catalyst for castor biodiesel production.

“…The peaks appeared in range 1215-1366 cm −1 were assigned to the bending vibration of the hydroxyl group, being associated with Sb and Fe [47]. The peak that appeared at~739 cm −1 was subjected to the bending of the Fe-O bond whereas, interestingly, no peak at~549 cm −1 was observed, which means no stretching of the Fe-O bond occurred in all samples [48]. After reacting with different antimony solutions, a new peak at approximately~490 cm −1 was observed in all samples, which was near to thẽ 488 cm −1 peak and, hence, assigned to the Sb(V)-O stretching vibration [28].…”

“…AgNPs can be regarded as “by-product” of the resistance mechanism of microorganisms against free Ag + . Plant mediated synthesis can reduce Ag + to Ag 0 using functional groups such as O-H and =C-H in organic components and their derivatives contained in the extract of plant parts 107 . Commonly used plant parts include bark, peel, callus, leaves, flower, fruit, stem, seed, and rhizome.…”

“…The observed bands at 1470.08, 1457.62, 1463.84, and 1470.05 cm 21 attributed to methyl group. The observed bands at 1743.26, 1743.76, 1748.79, and 1743.76 cm 21 for ester group reveals the formation of biodiesel [43][44][45]. The presence of two groups namely methyl (CH 3 ) and ester (CAO ester) in samples indicate that the transesterification of waste cooking oil occurred due to the addition of methanol and catalyst [46].…”
