Cathodic stripping voltammetric determination of β-cyfluthrin, a pyrethroid insecticide, using polished silver solid amalgam electrode

Abstract: This work describes an electroanalytical procedure for determination of beta-cyfluthrin (βCF), a pyrethroid insecticide, using polished silver solid amalgam electrode (p-AgSAE) allied to a square-wave cathodic adsorptive stripping voltammetry (SWCASV). Although βCF is non-electroactive in the conventional electrodes, it was accumulated at the p-AgSAE surface as adsorbed mercury salt, allowing their indirect determination using the well-defined reduction peak of mercury complex at − 0.94 V, obtained after adequ… Show more

“…For pyrethroid insecticide detection, a polished silver solid amalgam electrode (p-AgSAE) can be used. The proposed sensor was applied in natural water and tea samples and showed high robustness, good stability and sensitivity [ 272 ]. A nano-cylindrical strontium titanate/N-doped graphene (SrTiO 3 /N-GNS) hybrid composite-based sensor was reported for simultaneous detection of diphenhydramine (DPH) and bromhexine (BRO).…”

“…The enzyme directly oxidizes the substrate onto the gold electrode with a detection limit of 0.061 μM. In this context, Silva et al [ 26 ] used a polished silver solid alloy electrode (P-AGSAE) related to square wave cathode adsorption stripping voltammetry (SWCASV) as an electrical element for the determination of β-cyhalothrin in water and tea. There was no significant difference compared with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry at the 95% confidence level, proving that the electrochemical method is robust with good stability and sensitivity.…”

“…27 In addition, the use of AgSAE makes it easy to renew the electrode surface, reduces the adsorption of reaction products and is considered ecologically responsible as the mercury released in each analysis is practically insignificant. 28 Additionally, the electrochemical method was evaluated through the linear sweep adsorptive stripping voltammetry (LSAdSV), square wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry (SWAdSV) and differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry (DPdSV), through which it was shown to be efficient in the determination of sulfur traces in biodiesel on a AgSAE, with good sensitivity and a low detection limit, making it a potential alternative procedure for the analysis of this element.…”
