Cavity ringdown laser absorption spectroscopy and time-of-flight mass spectroscopy of jet cooled platinum silicides

Abstract: The cavity ringdown technique ͑CRLAS͒ has been employed to measure the gas phase absorption spectrum of the platinum silicide molecule in the 350 nm region. All nine of the measured rovibronic bands are assigned to a single 1 ⌺ -1 ⌺ electronic transition, with a ground state vibrational frequency of e Љ ϭ 549.0(3) cm Ϫ1, and a bond length of r 0 Љ ϭ 2.069(1) Å. The results of this study are compared with experimental data for the coinage metal silicides. Additionally, time-of-flight mass spectrometric results … Show more

“…This gives Y 10 (%x e ) to be 551(5) cm À1 , in good agreement with the value measured by Saykally and coworkers [1], x e ¼ 549:0ð3Þ cm À1 . Although Method A gave a satisfactory rms deviation, well within the experimental uncertainty, inspection of Table 4 indicates that the resulting D Pt 01 is large and positive, and not in keeping with other D i 01 values measured.…”

“…Use of CRD for sensitive absorption measurements with pulsed lasers was first demonstrated by O'Keefe and Deacon in 1988 [ 1] . Since then this technique has been used for absorption measurements on molecules in pulsed molecular beams [2][3][4][5], fortrace gas detection of molecules in ambient air and/ or in hostile environments [6][7][8] and for the measurement of absolute oscillator strengtbs of weak transitionsof stabie molecules [ 9,10], to ju st name a few. The CRD technique has been applied over the 200-3500 nm range [ 8,11] and a broadband version of this technique, that is prornising for exploration in the spectroscopically valuable IR region of the spectrum, has recently been demonstrated [ 12] .…”
