“…It was observed that tool wear can be characterised by micro cutting in the case where the hardness of particles is larger than cutting tool, and the tool are abraded as microcracking and micro-fatigue in the inverse case. In addition, Ciftci et al [18] examined the performance of CBN cutting tool in turning of Al/SiC MMCs, it was found that tool wear was mainly characterised as flank wear and influenced by particles size. Since researchers found that chip adhesion plays an important role in determining the surface quality at high speed cutting, polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tool and its coating were studied and found that they exhibited an outstanding performance in machining of MMCs materials due to its high hardness and low chemical affinity with the MMCs materials [19].…”

“…Based on literature survey (Cheung et al, 2002;Manna and Bhattacharayya, 2005;Ciftci et al, 2004) and availability, cutting inserts of three different nose radius are chosen. Table 2 Parameters of CNC turning machine.…”

“…Turning of MMCs with pit formation [45] Due to the wide applicabilities and difficulties in machining of the MMCs, researchers are always made their effort to know the machining capabilities of low cost cutting tool materials for machining of these difficult to machine materials. In this way, the performances of cubic boron nitride (CBN) cutting tool were studied by Ciftci et al [49]. They experimentally proved that the tool wear (flank wear) was highly influenced by size of the reinforced particles.…”
