Conventional learnings have given way to methods aided by technological advances. The approach known as Student-Centered Learning (SCL) is the foundation of e-learning. Furthermore, SCL demands students to be self-motivated to complete courses and engage with the offered learning content. Programming is one of the most important subjects to study independently and with the aid of an instructor. The need for graduates with programming and computational skills in the field of web design continues to receive widespread attention from the industry. However, problems such as low student engagement are often encountered in learning about programming concepts and syntax. Gamification is an instructional approach to facilitate learning and boost motivation through game elements, mechanics, and thinking. Therefore, this research aims to discuss the development of Gamification-based e-learning to increase student engagement and motivation, especially in HTML and CSS web design. This system was tested with 3 methods, including unit, system, and user testing. In user testing, this study involved 264 students from computer backgrounds to validate the system. The results show that the e-learning system can perform well according to the expected specifications.

The use of i-THINK Mapping in teaching reading comprehension among ESL teachers

This study investigated the use of i-THINK Mapping in teaching reading comprehension by ESL teachers to a group of Form Five students, and the factors and challenges the ESL teachers faced in teaching reading comprehension using i-THINK Mapping. A qualitative approach, specifically a case study design, was employed in this study. Classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis of their lesson plans were used to collect the data. Four ESL teachers with a minimum of 5-year teaching experience in a rural secondary school in Hulu Selangor, Malaysia, were selected using a purposive sampling technique to participate in this study. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data obtained from classroom observations and interviews. The findings show that the teachers had applied five i-THINK maps, including a Circle Map to define in context, a Bubble Map to describe, a Double Bubble Map to compare and contrast, a Flow Map to show the sequence of an event, and a Tree Map to classify different ideas. The i-THINK Mapping motivated the students to discuss, brainstorm, and cooperate with their peers to detect the details from the given reading texts. The teachers’ challenges include the time constraints in preparing the lesson with i-THINK Mapping and a low level of student English proficiency. One implication of this study is that teachers’ use of i-THINK Mapping to teach reading comprehension could assist students in generating ideas, expanding ideas, and expressing them orally.

Link and Match antara Perguruan Tinggi Vokasi dengan Industri di Kalimantan Selatan dinilai masih jauh dari harapan. Terdapat kesenjangan karena standar capaian pembelajaran belum sesuai dengan standar yang diinginkan dari industri. Selain itu serapan lulusan untuk bekerja masih rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan membangun Platform tes lowongan kerja berbasis mobile dalam rangka mempererat sinergi antar Politeknik dengan industri di Kalimantan Selatan. Berfokus pada User Experience Design dengan membangun prototipe dan mengujinya. Perusahaan tinggal memilih program studi apa saja yang bisa mengikuti tes suatu lowongan pekerjaan dan secara langsung informasi diterima oleh masing-masing lulusan Program Studi. Platform mobile merupakan pilihan yang paling memungkinkan karena di Indonesia perangkat mobile lebih banyak digunakan. Selain itu tidak seperti website dan program desktop, pada aplikasi mobile dapat dilakukan pembatasan untuk keperluan yang spesifik agar tes berlangsung bebas dari kecurangan. User Experience Design dilaksanakan dengan kerangka kerja UXD FLIP dan menggunakan tool desain Figma. Hasil pengujian User Experience Design menunjukkan bahwa prototipe yang sudah dikembangkan telah valid dengan nilai 80,5, sehingga dinyatakan telah fix dan dapat dijadikan acuan dalam proses coding.
