“…Then, the cycling voltammetry was recorded in the presence of each CdSO 4 , PdSO 4 and ZnSO 4 solutions prepared in 0.1 M H 2 SO 4 solution for adlayer formation. The cyclic voltammograms further recorded in the same solutions have agreed well with those in the reported works for Pd, Cd and Zn ad-layer [15,18,24,25].…”

“…Fundamental studies on this area have revealed the orientation dependency on the kinetics and mechanism of oxygen reduction and the best activity was obtained with an Au(100) crystal electrode where a four-electron reduction of molecular oxygen to water occurred in pH [6.0 media [1,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. On the other hand, a surface modification is required to improve electrocatalytic activity of Au(111) crystal electrode where two-electron reduction takes place otherwise [15,16].…”

“…On the reverse scan, the stripping peak (A Cd ) corresponds to dissolution of Cd UPD. The electrochemical behaviors of Cd in this work are similar to that reported by previous authors [6,37,38]. Based on the above results, for electrodeposition potential of Cd and S in UPD range can be determined from overlapped cyclic voltammograms of Cd and S. If the potential of the working electrode was kept constant at a potential between the reductive UPD wave of CdEDTA 2− and the oxidative UPD wave of S 2− (codeposition region), Cd and S would deposit underpotentially at the electrode surface.…”

“…The O 2 reduction is inhibited at approximately À 100 mV/SME as seen by a decrease in the current. Machado et al [42] have shown this inhibition of O 2 reduction to be due to the adsorbed Cu monolayer deposition on the Pt surface at a potential prior to its Nernstian equilibrium potential (phenomenon called underpotential deposition or UPD [43]). This is why the addition of 10 À3 mol L À1 Cu(II) in H 2 SO 4 solution containing Fe(III) allows to measure i lim of Fe(III) (towards À 400 mV/ SME) in the presence of O 2 using Pt electrode as can be seen from Fig.…”
