CD147 Levels in Blood and Adipose Tissues Correlate with Vascular Dysfunction in Obese Diabetic Adults

Abstract: CD147 is a glycoprotein that stimulates the production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), known contributors to cardiovascular risk. The activity of CD147 protein depends on its glycosylation. However, it is unclear whether CD147 protein expression or glycosylation are influenced by the diabetic milieu characterized by hyperglycemia and abundant glycation-end-products (AGEs). We examined the circulating and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) levels of CD147 and their correlation with vascular function in obese, o… Show more

“…Following this, infrared IRDye-labeled secondary antibodies (LI-COR Biosciences) were applied for 1 h at room temperature and protected from light. The membranes were washed with TBS + 0.1% Tween-20, dried at room temperature, and imaged in the appropriate channel (700 nm for IRDye680TM antibodies, 800 nm for IRDye800TM antibodies) using an Odyssey Clx infrared imaging system [33]. The quantification of images was performed using Image Studio ver.…”

“… 121 A high level of CD147 in the plasma of obese patients is correlated with vascular dysfunction and linked with cardiometabolic risk factors. 121 This might explain high mortality and Covid‐19 severity in old age with comorbidities. A cohort study involving 119 Covid‐19 patients compared to 69 controls illustrated that platelet expression of CD147 was increased, causing inflammation and thrombosis through induction release of P selectin and HMGB1, which predict worse outcomes and Covid‐19 severity.…”

“…As well, CD147 expression is augmented in various cardiometabolic disorders, including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, thrombosis, and chronic kidney diseases 121 . A high level of CD147 in the plasma of obese patients is correlated with vascular dysfunction and linked with cardiometabolic risk factors 121 . This might explain high mortality and Covid‐19 severity in old age with comorbidities.…”
