CD1a and skin T cells: a pathway for therapeutic intervention

Abstract: The CD1 and MR1 protein families present lipid antigens and small molecules to T cells, complementing well-studied MHC-peptide mechanisms. The CD1a subtype is highly and continuously expressed within the skin, most notably on Langerhans cells, and has been demonstrated to present self and foreign lipids to T cells, highlighting its cutaneous sentinel role.
