CD30 (Ki‐1) expression in adult T‐cell leukaemia/lymphoma is associated with distinctive immunohistological and clinical characteristics

Abstract: Twenty-one patients with CD30 (Ki-1) positive lymphoma were studied from a group of 91 patients with adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma. The patients were grouped into three types: diffuse CD30 positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma in 11 patients (group 1); pleomorphic type lymphoma with diffuse CD30 expression in five patients (group 2); and pleomorphic type lymphoma with positive CD30 expression in large cells but negative in medium-sized and small cells in five patients (group 3). The patients with diffuse C… Show more

“…Based on these results, in the microenvironment, it is conceivable that ATL stem cells produce sIL-2R and sCD30 to prevent activating T cell death by excess IL-2R signaling and cell death caused by CD30-CD30L interaction (Pornkuna et al, 2014b). However, CD30 expression was not always observed in lymph nodes of all ATLs (Takeshita et al, 1995). While our results provide a new perspective on the mechanism of ATL leukemogenesis in HTLV-1 carriers, the role of the CD30 expression on ATL remains to be elucidated.…”

“…However, the histological type does not correspond to the clinical subtype. 19 Therefore, it is reasonable to postulate that the histological type does not always reflect the clinical features because the tumor subclones may differ at various sites.…”

“…1, [27][28][29] Of the former, 71 cases (48%) were classified as pleo medium ( Figure 1a) and 76 (52%) as pleo large (Figure 1b). Sixteen cases of ALCL were analyzed with regard to CD30 expression and almost all of the cases (15/16) showed positivity.…”
