Abstract: Celecoxib exerts protective effects on mandibular condylar chondrocytes under CTS stimulation by diminishing degradation and restoring synthesis of ECM.

“…It is generally accepted that appropriate joint biomechanical loading is essential for cartilage anabolic metabolism 3 , while abnormal joint loading results in cartilage metabolism imbalance favoring catabolic metabolism and OA changes 48 . Abnormal joint loading could downregulate expression of proteoglycans and Collagen II and upregulate expression of inflammatory factors, such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and cartilage extracellular matrix degrading enzymes, such as a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) 9 .
