Cellulosenanocrystals‐organicmontmorillonite nanohybrid material by electrostatic self‐assembly

Abstract: The hybridization based on various nanoparticles is an emerging technological field, involving the synergistic hybrid assembly of nanoparticles. In order to broaden the application of existing nanomaterials such as cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and montmorillonite (MMT), a novel CNC–organic MMT (OMMT) nanohybrid material was constructed by electrostatic self‐assembly. Morphology observations showed that one‐dimensional needle‐like CNC were adsorbed on the surface of two‐dimensional flake‐like OMMT, thereby form… Show more

“…Stability Analysis. The stability of ZnO particles in aqueous solution, which is closely related to their electrokinetic properties, 29 is as important as their dispersibility. When the surface of nanoparticles has a high surface charge density, a strong repulsive force will be produced between them.…”

“…It is noted that the thermal decomposition temperature of the CNC prepared in this work was in the range of 200–350°C with T onset and T max of about 252.3 and 279.7°C, respectively. [ 29 ] Due to the severe agglomeration of the CNC nanofillers, the CNC aggregates decomposed at a lower temperature than the PLA matrix. As a result, the T onset and T max of the P‐C nanocomposites decreased with increasing CNC content.…”

“…During this process, CNC‐OMMT hybrid nanoparticles formed by electrostatic self‐assembly. [ 29 ] It should be noted that the mass ratio of CNC to OMMT in the hybrid nanoparticles was controlled to be 1:1.…”

“…While self-assembly has been studied in single-component CNC and MNT dispersions, 11,[31][32][33] including, in the case of CNC, in confined geometries such as sessile, 34 emulsion 35 and levitating 36 droplets, studies of multicomponent CNC:MNT systems are sparse. 28,37 Exploring and probing how CNC and inorganic nanoparticles such as clays assemble in aqueous dispersions is important for the development of processing routes and new classes of sustainable materials.…”
