Cement Bonded Particle Boards with Different Types of Natural Fibres—Using Carbon Dioxide Injection for Increased Initial Bonding

Abstract: The effect of CO 2 injection on initial strength increase and hardening of cement-fibre mix in a cement bonded particle board (CBPB) production was evaluated. Different cement contents, formation pressure and types of fibres were considered. The initial strength increase with CO 2 injection is so much faster than this caused by conventional hydration that the produced samples do not need additional curing before they can be stored. Similar strength and stiffness values as in conventional products on the market… Show more

“…Cement bonded boards, which are a mixture of wood particles with cement, water and some additives (Marteinsson and Gudmundsson, 2018), have been in use for almost a century. Compared to organic bonded wood products, some advantages such as durability, dimensional stability, acoustic and thermal insulation properties and low production cost make them desirable in the construction industry (Lee, 1984;Ramirez-Coretti et al, 1998;Savastano et al, 2003;Okino et al, 2005;Del Menezzi et al, 2007).…”

“…The CO2 injection was successful in increasing the initial strength by accelerating the cement curing and bonding the cement and wood. These boards had similar mechanical properties as the boards made via conventional production, and they had a lower cement content (Marteinsson and Gudmundsson 2018). The durability characteristics of composites made of cellulose fiber and cement were studied.…”

“…Wood-cement boards are usually made of wood fibers or particles mixed with cement, water and some additives in order to speed up the bonding process (Marteinsson and Gudmundsson, 2018). They have been already used almost everywhere in the world mainly for roofs, floors and walls (Nazerian et al, 2018).…”
