Centimeter‐Sized Single Crystal of Two‐Dimensional Halide Perovskites Incorporating Straight‐Chain Symmetric Diammonium Ion for X‐Ray Detection

Abstract: Two‐dimensional (2D) AA′n−1MnX3n+1 type halide perovskites incorporating straight‐chain symmetric diammonium cations define a new type of structure, but their optoelectronic properties are largely unexplored. Reported here is the synthesis of a centimeter‐sized AA′n−1MnX3n+1 type perovskite, BDAPbI4 (BDA=NH3C4H8NH3), single crystal and its charge‐transport properties under X‐ray excitation. The crystal shows a staggered configuration of the [PbI6]4− layers, a band gap of 2.37 eV, and a low trap density of 3.1×… Show more

“…The detector has a higher charge collection efficiency close to the crystal surface owing to a higher electric field strength. [30,31] The X-ray response of the TMCM-CdCl 3 crystal based device was recorded by modified DX-2700 X-ray diffractometer under a tungsten anode X-ray source at the continuous 40 kV acceleration voltage. The dose rates can be regulated by changing the X-ray tube current from 40 to 5 mA and number of the aluminum attenuators.…”

“…[28][29][30] The RP, DJ, and Aurivillius families adopt the general formulas A 0 2 A nÀ1 B n X 3nþ1 , A 0 0 A nÀ1 B n X 3nþ1 , and (Bi 2 O 2 )(A nÀ1 B n X 3nþ1 ), respectively, where A denotes a univalent organic cation: formamidinium (FA þ ) or methylammonium (MA þ ), A 0 is a large univalent organic cation spacer such as butylammonium (BA þ ), [14,31] or phenylethylammonium (PEA þ ), [6,32,33] etc., A 0 0 is a divalent organic cation spacer such as 3-(aminomethyl)piperidinium (3AMP 2þ ) [34,35] or 1,4-butanediamine (BDA 2þ ). [23,25,36] The ACI perovskites, a new type of 2D halide perovskites that feature two different ACIs in the interlayer space, was first introduced by Soe et al [28] The ACI families can be described by the formula of (GA)MA n Pb n I 3nþ1 (GA ¼ guanidinium, MA ¼ methylammonium). This unique structure type blends the structural features of the DJ perovskites with the chemical formula of the RP perovskites.…”

“…The value was 9-fold higher than the dominant commercial X-ray detector a-Se (20 μC Gy air −1 cm −2 ). The lowest detection limit of (BDA)PbI 4 was 1.58–3.13 µGy air ·s −1 at 10–50 V voltage bias, which is lower than the regular medical diagnostics and makes 2D (BDA)PbI 4 a candidate material for soft X-ray detector [ 54 ].…”
