Cerebrospinal fluid dynorphin 1-17 and β-endorphin in late pregnancy and six months after delivery

Abstract: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of dynorphin A and \g=b\-endorphin were measured by radioimmunoassay in 62 primiparae in term pregnancy before onset of labour. In 50 of these women acupuncture (AP) treatment was given in an antenatal preparation procedure. In 15 of the AP-treated women, CSF samples were further obtained six months after delivery. Median values for dynorphin A were 7.5 pmol/l in AP-treated women and 6.4 pmol/l in non-treated controls. The puerperal median value for dynorphin A was 7.6 pmol/l. … Show more

“…Dynorphin is present in the dorsal horn of the normal spinal cord largely in Rexed´s lamina I and II and occasionally in lamina V and VI [158,[310][311][312][313][314][315][316]. Intrathecal administration of dynorphin A (1-17 or 2-17) causes motor dysfunction in rats [see Table 10; 317] and treatment with dynorphin A (1-17) antiserum improves the neurological outcome after SCI (see Table 10; [318]).…”

“…In order to further elucidate these mechanisms, cerebro spinal fluid (CSF) was collected for endor phin analyses. The results of these investiga tions will be published elsewhere [9].…”

“…As mentioned above, most active peptides, which have been identified in CNS tissues, are also present in the CSF. These include beta-endorphin, dynorphin A, Leuenkephalin, Met-enkephalin and its C-terminal extensions -Arg and -Arg-Phe (26)(27)(28). Also some atypical opioid peptides, such as beta-casomorphin-8 and hemorphin-7 (29,30) have been detected in CSF.…”
