Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB) Bloated Micelles and Merged CTAB/Bolaamphiphiles Self-Assembled Vesicles toward the Generation of Highly Porous Alumina as Efficacious Inorganic Adsorbents

Abstract: Herein, in a new approach, highly porous alumina materials (HiPAs) have been synthesized through cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) bloated micelles or merged CTAB/dicarboxylic acid vesicular aggregates (di-acids with 8, 10, and 12 carbon atoms) as novel templates and characterized by N 2 sorption, low-and wide-angle XRD (X-ray diffraction), FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), HR-TEM (high-resolution transmission electron microscopy), DLS (dynamic li… Show more

“…Specifically, the cationic surfactant CTAB will form micelles and vesicles in the polar organic solvent EG (with a high polarity of 6.9). [ 44,45 ] Hence, we propose that both CTAB micelles and vesicles may act as the soft templates and assist the formations of hollow and solid Cu x Ir y O z NS. We also propose that the NF may provide anchoring sites for the synthesized Cu x Ir y O z NS, beneficial for their uniform dispersion.…”

“…It shall be noted that the cloudy region encircling AuNWs is due to the strongly coupled capping action of CTAB upon the evaporation of the solvent, leaving the residue behind. Since cationic CTAB surfactant consists of long carbon atomic chain [71][72][73][74], it functions as space-lling of secondary material that lls up the gaps between the AuNWs and maintains the individual distribution of AuNWs. The FESEM micrographs distinctly manifest dissimilarity of CTAB grain with AuNWs, exhibiting large-sized ake grains (marked with the blue arrow in Figure 3).…”
