“…The γ-phase has been produced by either casting from DMSO or dimethylformamide solution regardless of preparation temperature (Cortili and Zerbi 1967;Okuda et al *Author for correspondence (srinu73@rrcat.gov.in) 1967; Gal'Perin et al 1970;Hasegawa et al 1972a;Park et al 2005). The γ-phase can be produced by crystallizing from melt under high pressures (Welch and Miller 1976) and can also be produced as a result of an atmospheric pressure annealing induced transformation from the α-phase (Prest Jr and Luca 1975).…”

“…Together with this strategy they also used the OPIUM code which led to a full reproduction of the structure and NMR and FTIR vibrational frequencies of the α-PVDF phase. With these results, they contributed to the understanding of those mode ambiguities founded experimentally (Makarevich & Nikitin, 1965;Wentink et al, 1961;Cortili & Zerbi, 1967;Kobayashi et al, 1975). In the case of finite models that are treated as molecules (Das et al, 1999), the DFT methodology with ab-initio methods implemented in the Gaussian 94 software package help in geometric structure, vibrational frequency, dipole moment and singlet-triplet energy separation of CH 2 , CHF, CF 2 , CCl 2 and CBr 2 studies, using B3LYP, B3P86 and B3PW91 hybrid density functionals.…”

“…For example, the b form of PVDF is generally obtained from the uniaxial deformation of the a phase at ambient temperature. [39] In addition, the b form of PVDF can also be obtained from nanoscale-confined crystals of PVDF in PVDF/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blends by using a spatially confined crystallization method. [38] In this study, it would be of interest to investigate what different constraints, other than copolymerization with a third polymer, may induce similar phenomena.…”
