“…The existence of such a reference model becomes even more important as the creation of efficiency, effectiveness and competence to deliver value to customers are integral components of the supply chain and eventually competitiveness IJLSS 14,1 (Bravo et al, 2007;Antai, 2011). The main challenges of the retail supply chain that companies should cope with to stay competitive and efficient, as described by Fernie and Sparks (2019) and Bhakat and Arif (2021), encompass the need for information sharing and development of relationships across the supply chain, the availability and the handling of products until they reach the shelf, the digital shift and the increasing pace of supply chain movements that should keep up with the customer demands. Thus, the configuration of the proposed reference model tries to address these challenges with the contribution of suggested improvements which can be implemented following LSS methodology.…”
