Unlike other cultures around the globe, marriage is considered a social contract and a religious obligation that was performed before having a sexual relationship. Existing literature indicates in Bangladesh despite having so many restrictions late marriage is gaining popularity among the youth and arising as an emerging problem. But what are the reasons for and consequences of such a phenomenon remain unanswered. A sample survey was conducted among the youth. Unmarried students of post-graduate level studying at Jagannath University, Dhaka University, and North South University were selected as samples for the quantitative data. Some case studies were also conducted for qualitative data to supplement survey data. This study found the causes behind late marriage are- respondents were waiting to complete their education, some were not mentally ready to take the responsibility, family did not discuss their marriage as they have elder siblings, did not want to lose their freedom now. A large number of respondents reported that they may have a problem having a baby due to late marriage which is agreed by the result of case studies. A vast majority of the respondents (90%) were found to use masturbation as an alternative way to meet sexual needs which leads to experiencing different psychosocial problems. More than three-fourths (78%) and two-thirds (69%) of respondents blamed late marriage chronologically for depression and loss of focus on work, respectively. This study drew some recommendations to address the reasons for late marriage and overcome its harsh consequences.

Background: One of the most important aspects of women’s well-being and welfare is RSH (reproductive and sexual health). Reproductive health is not an exception to the threat that CCC (climate change and climate crisis) poses to numerous facets of public health. Firstly, the present review seeks to identify the influence of climatic changes, natural disasters, and climate-driven migration on RSH. Secondly, to identify knowledge gaps regarding the same. Material and Methods: Two databases (Scopus and PubMed) were scanned using Boolean operation. The literature search aimed to find records pertaining to topics of RSH and climate change. Using the PRISMA-ScR method, records were screened and shortlisted based on established inclusion criteria. This literature search was carried out in November 2022. In the shortlisted records, preference for the comprehensive review articles was given. Results: The present review is based on 38 records that collectively revealed that climate crisis and natural disasters have many negative impacts on female reproductive health. These effects are observed in different phases of life, ranging from teenage to menopause. The unique strength of the present review is that it draws a relationship between female reproductive health and the direct as well as indirect effects of the CCC. The available literature about LMICs is predominantly confined to drought, flood, and earthquake. Disasters like tsunamis, cyclones, and avalanches remain unexplored. Conclusion: From the available literature, it is quite evident that CCC has an adverse effect on a woman’s reproductive life as well as a bearing on future generations’ health. Filling these knowledge gaps is pivotal for designing more effective disaster and health policies. Policymakers should take into consideration these detrimental effects while designing health schemes and policies for females.

Awareness and Attitude of Wives of Laborer Outmigrants Originating from Indian Subcontinent Towards Emergency Contraceptives- A Multi-Country Study

Objective : The present study aims to analyze the attitude and awareness of wives of male migrants (WMM) towards EC (Emergency Contraceptives Pills) residing in either of three countries of the Indian subcontinent (India, Bangladesh, and Nepal). Further, the present study also aims to identify the socioeconomic determinants of the EC awareness of WMM. Methods : A cross-sectional survey of 621 WMM was conducted across multiple low-income sites in the three countries. Findings: The majority of the respondents (77.6%) reported being aware of EC methods, out of which the majority (32%) reported their friends circle to be the primary source of knowledge followed by husband (23.4%), family members (19.9%) and healthcare workers (9.8%), respectively. About 56% of the respondents reported that they consumed EC pills more than thrice in the last year. The study discovered that WMM engaged in unprotected intercourse about 5 times (SD= ±1.6) on average in the last year. While the reported consumption of EC pills by WMM was 2.6 times (SD= ±1.2) on an average during the same year. Regression analysis revealed that ‘place of husband’s migration’ is the strongest determinant of WMM’s EC awareness (OR=3.67, p<0.05), followed by ‘age of the WMM’ (OR=2.12, p<0.05), and ‘religion’ (OR=1.32, p<0.05) respectively. Furthermore, ‘having children’ was also found to be a significant determinant (p<0.05). Novelty : Firstly, the study offers an examination of comparison of WMMs’ attitudes and awareness residing in three low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), an area not thoroughly investigated in previous studies. Secondly, the study has identified the factors influencing the awareness of EC among WMM, a subject largely unexplored in prior research. Conclusion : We conclude that based on the findings the level of awareness of EC is not adequate and policymakers could use these findings to strengthen the reproductive health policies of targeted intervention groups.
